Easter EggsBy Pastor Brian
As we were preparing for Easter, we ran across the questions, “What does the Easter Bunny have to do with Easter? What does the hiding of brightly colored Eggs have to do with Jesus?” At Wednesday’s prayer I realized there is an answer to that: God is like parents on Easter who hide eggs (sometimes in plain sight) for their children to find. God has hidden throughout our day opportunities to see the Holy Spirit at work. There are little moments in our days God has placed there for His glory and our enjoyment. It is our job to see them for what they are.
How are they hidden? Usually they’re behind inconveniences, under delays, and blend in with the things which don’t go according to our plans. When we are derailed, let’s look around and ask, “What opportunities does this present?” When the disciples didn’t catch any fish, it was an opportunity to encounter Jesus. When the demons sought to disrupt Jesus, He displayed his power. When death tried to hold Jesus, our eternal life was accomplished.
Jesus invites us into a treasure hunt. The question becomes are we willing to join him or will we be too distracted to see the brightly colored Easter eggs all around us?
“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!” Matthew 7:7-11
